The Pokédex

Put a fully interactive Pokédex on your stream! With chat lookups, Streamer.bot triggers, game-filtered movesets, evolution chains, and optional encounter locations and more!

Setting up The Pokedex

You need the customizer URL, an OBS Browser Source, and Streamer.bot with WebSocket enabled. All data comes from PokeAPI. Streamer.bot is recommended for chat parsing, chat replies, and optional Custom Events.

  1. Open the customizer
  2. Enable Streamer.bot WebSocket
  3. Generate URL and add to OBS
  4. Configure appearance and game filter
  5. Configure behavior and chat
  6. Create Streamer.bot Custom Event actions (Optional)
  7. Go live with chat or Custom Events

Chat Commands

Default command word is pokedex (configurable in the customizer). Permissions default to everyone; disable Allow Everyone to restrict to broadcaster and mods.

Streamer.bot Custom Events

Trigger these with Trigger Custom Event in Streamer.bot. Names must match exactly (case-sensitive). Use Args on Pokedex.Lookup only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Streamer.bot?

Recommended. The overlay connects over WebSocket for Twitch chat parsing, Custom Events (hotkeys, channel points, scene changes), and optional chat replies. You can still display Pokémon from the default setting without triggers, but chat and automation require Streamer.bot.

Do I need Twitch API credentials?

No. The Pokedex uses PokeAPI for Pokémon data and Streamer.bot for chat and events. You do not need a Twitch developer app.

Chat commands work in the customizer preview but not in OBS?

OBS Browser Source uses a separate profile. Confirm Streamer.bot WebSocket is running and address/port in the overlay URL match Streamer.bot. If you enabled chat replies, save the Streamer.bot password in the customizer or enable Include Password in Overlay URL. Check the connection indicator in the preview panel.

Why is the connection indicator red or disconnected?

Streamer.bot WebSocket must be enabled. Verify host and port (default 127.0.0.1:8080). If you use a password, it must be saved in localStorage for OBS or included in the generated URL. Hide the indicator on stream with Hide Connection Status in display options.

Locations are missing or empty?

Locations require a specific game in Generation — not All Generations. Gen 8 (Sword/Shield) and Gen 9 (Scarlet/Violet) use curated data in the overlay. Older games use PokeAPI encounter data where available. Some Pokémon may have no encounter data for your selected game.

Custom Events are not firing?

Event names are case-sensitive: Pokedex.Lookup, Pokedex.Show, Pokedex.Hide, Pokedex.Next, Pokedex.Prev, Pokedex.Random. For lookups, enable Use Args on the Trigger Custom Event sub-action and pass valid JSON with a query field.

Is my overlay URL safe to share?

Generally yes. Unlike some MBT tools, Twitch secrets are not embedded. The URL only contains overlay settings. If you enable Include Password in Overlay URL, treat that link like a password — it can expose your Streamer.bot WebSocket password.

Is this free?

Yes. The Pokedex overlay is free. PokeAPI and Streamer.bot are also free.
